Motion is the Lotion
Keep your body healthy and avoid pain by following this simple motto.
All of my patients have heard my cheesy tagline, "Motion is the Lotion!" Some may even have a nifty t-shirt with that motto on it. They keep hearing me chant "Motion is the Lotion!" because it's the truth!
Our bodies are like elaborate self-lubricating, self-repairing machines. The longer we sit still the more stress we are placing on our tissues (joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments). When the stress is too great, these tissues will break down resulting in pain, disability, and eventually arthritis.
Motion to the rescue! With movement we can hit the reset button. Essentially unloading and de-stressing our tissues. Motion is how we keep our bodies limber and healthy. The research shows that for every 20 minutes of sitting, we need to take a 20 second microbreak to keep our bodies healthy and well lubricated; relieving all that pent up stress.
Keep Moving! Motion is the Lotion!
